I don't really know...

Prompt- 'Behind her, the noise escalated'.

Behind her, the noise escalated... to the point where Jenny Brigham didn't know what was going on. Buildings were collapsing and the helicopter's blades were directly above her. She stood with the others and looked up as the helicopter took off and climbed ever higher into the sky. She looked down at the ground, stained with blood and strewn with debris, and in the background she heard her apartment building crumbling. Everything in New York seemed to be falling apart, like a scene from a movie.

And Jenny Brigham was standing in the very center of the devastation, her only companions two people she hardly knew. Scott and Irma worked at the school, and they stood on either side of her, watching the helicopter as it swayed in the terrible wind.

Jenova was up there, painting the world with black clouds that swirled and rained poison down on the city. Every so often a massive fireball the size of a bus would streak from the speck above the city and slam into a building, resulting in more ruination around them. In a fit of mild insanity, Jenny wondered- as her apartment building became apartment rubble -if she had left the oven on, perchance.

In retrospect, she had a lot of others things to worry about. For example- she had been shuttled back and forth from the school to care for a murderer until today, Jenova had woken up and began destroying everything for no other reason than she could, and Logan and said murderer were now in a helicopter going to take Jenova down. And had she mentioned that she was almost positive she was in love with the murderer? Mortimer is up there, right now, probably going to die, and she's down there, about to die.

Life has never been stranger, but she feels exhilarated. The world is falling apart and she's completely calm.

Then she hears the sonic book. The explosion that rocks her down to the marrow in her bones; and then silence.

Nothing movies, nothing breathes. Above them, a dark speck has leapt from the cockpit of the helicopter and flung themself at Jenova, and in the ensuing shockwave the helicopter's wings get blown off, and it tumbles towards the ground.

Before it slams into one of the skyscrapers, she sees another dark speck fly from the helicopter wreckage and land- on it's FEET- on top of the still-somehow-standing building next to the one the helicopter is now decimating.

Above them, everything has become orange, and then Jenova is gone.

They did it.
